Chikankari is made to be worn and loved — not kept in plastic forever. With gentle care, your kurtis and kurta sets stay soft, bright, and embroidery-rich for years.
Washing hand-embroidered Chikankari
- Hand wash cold with mild liquid detergent; avoid bleach.
- Turn garments inside out; do not scrub embroidery directly.
- Rinse until water runs clear; detergent residue dulls whites.
- For heavy festive pieces or silk blends, dry-clean is safest.
Drying and storage
Dry in shade on a flat towel or wide hanger — sun while wet can yellow cotton. Store folded with muslin, not sealed plastic, so fibres breathe.
Ironing without crushing stitches
Iron on reverse with a thin cotton cloth over embroidery. Steam lightly; avoid pressing jaali areas with heavy pressure.
